ഒരു വിശ്വാസിയുടെ വിശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം

നീതീകരണത്തിന് ശേഷം ഒരു വിശ്വാസിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ദൈവം തുടർച്ചയായി നടത്തുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനമാണ് വിശുദ്ധീകരണം. നീതീകരണത്തിൽ, ക്രിസ്തുവിലുള്ള വിശ്വാസം നിമിത്തം ദൈവം ഒരാളെ നീതിമാനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നു. വിശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിൽ, ആ വ്യക്തിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ ദൈവം ക്രമേണ മാറ്റിത്തുടങ്ങുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവൻ ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തെ കൂടുതൽ കൂടുതൽ പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

വിശുദ്ധീകരണം നമ്മുടെ സ്വന്തം ശക്തിയാൽ നാം നേടുന്ന ഒന്നല്ല. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലൂടെയും ദൈവവചനത്തിലൂടെയും ശിക്ഷണത്തിലൂടെയും സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിലൂടെയും നമ്മുടെ ദൈനംദിന വിശ്വാസജീവിതത്തിലൂടെയും ദൈവം നമ്മിൽ സജീവമായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.

1. ദൈവം വിശ്വാസിയെ തനിക്കായി വേർതിരിക്കുന്നു

ഒരു വ്യക്തി ക്രിസ്തുവിങ്കൽ വരുമ്പോൾ, അവൻ ദൈവത്തിനായി വേർതിരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവൻ ഇപ്പോൾ ദൈവത്തിന്റേതാണ്; ഈ പുതിയ ബന്ധത്തെ പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ജീവിതം നയിക്കുവാൻ വിളിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

പത്രോസ് പറയുന്നു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ സകല നടപ്പിലും വിശുദ്ധരായിരിക്കുവിൻ” (1 പത്രോസ് 1:15). ദൈവം നമ്മെ എന്തിൽനിന്നോ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിൽ മാത്രം ഒതുങ്ങുന്നില്ല; അവൻ നമ്മെ തനിക്കായി വേർതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

2. ദൈവം പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലൂടെ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു

വിശുദ്ധീകരണപ്രവർത്തനത്തിന്റെ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവാണ്. അവൻ വിശ്വാസിയിൽ വസിക്കുകയും അവന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ നിരന്തരം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

ആത്മാവ് നമ്മെ പാപത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ബോധ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സത്യം പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു, അനുസരിക്കുവാൻ ശക്തി നൽകുന്നു, ക്രിസ്തുസദൃശമായ സ്വഭാവം നമ്മിൽ ഉളവാക്കുന്നു.

ഗലാത്യർ 5:22–23 ഈ ഫലത്തെ സ്നേഹം, സന്തോഷം, സമാധാനം, ദീർഘക്ഷമ, ദയ, നന്മ, വിശ്വസ്തത, സൗമ്യത, ആത്മനിയന്ത്രണം എന്നിങ്ങനെ വിവരിക്കുന്നു.

3. ദൈവം മനസ്സിനെ പുതുക്കുന്നു

വിശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിൽ നാം ചിന്തിക്കുന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള മാറ്റവും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.

റോമർ 12:2 പറയുന്നത്, മനസ്സിന്റെ പുതുക്കത്തിലൂടെ നാം രൂപാന്തരപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നാണ്. ദൈവവചനം മനസ്സിലാക്കി സ്വീകരിക്കുമ്പോൾ, നമ്മുടെ ചിന്തകളും മനോഭാവങ്ങളും മൂല്യങ്ങളും ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ക്രമേണ മാറിത്തുടങ്ങുന്നു.

ലോകത്തിന്റെ രീതികൾക്കനുസരിച്ച് അല്ല, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടികോണത്തിൽനിന്ന് ജീവിതത്തെ കാണുവാൻ ദൈവം നമ്മെ ക്രമേണ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

4. ദൈവം നമ്മുടെ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ മാറ്റുകയും അനുസരിക്കുവാൻ ശക്തി നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു

വിശ്വാസിയോട് എന്ത് ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞിട്ട്, അവൻ ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് പോരാടട്ടെ എന്നു ദൈവം വിട്ടുകളയുന്നില്ല.

ഫിലിപ്പിയർ 2:13 പറയുന്നു: “തന്റെ പ്രസാദത്തിനായി ഇച്ഛിക്കുവാനും പ്രവർത്തിക്കുവാനും നിങ്ങളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവൻ ദൈവമത്രേ.”

ദൈവത്തെ പ്രസാദിപ്പിക്കുവാനുള്ള ആഗ്രഹവും അവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം ജീവിക്കുവാനുള്ള ശക്തിയും നൽകി ദൈവം നമ്മുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.

5. ദൈവം തന്റെ മക്കളെ ശിക്ഷണത്തിലൂടെ വളർത്തുന്നു

വിശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ദൈവം ശിക്ഷണവും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

ദൈവം താൻ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് എബ്രായർ 12 പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ചിലപ്പോൾ, നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ മാറ്റം ആവശ്യമായ കാര്യങ്ങളെ പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതിനായി അവൻ തിരുത്തലുകളും പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും പ്രയാസകരമായ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളും അനുവദിക്കുന്നു.

നമ്മെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുക എന്നതല്ല അവന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം; നീതിയിലും വിശുദ്ധിയിലും നമ്മെ പരിശീലിപ്പിക്കുകയാണ് അവന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം.

6. ദൈവം ആത്മീയഫലം ഉളവാക്കുന്നു

ക്രിസ്തീയജീവിതം പാപം ഒഴിവാക്കുന്നതിൽ മാത്രം ഒതുങ്ങുന്നില്ല. ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്വഭാവം നമ്മിൽ ഉളവാക്കുവാനാണ് ദൈവം ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്.

നാം ആത്മാവിനനുസരിച്ച് നടക്കുമ്പോൾ, അവന്റെ സ്വഭാവം നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ കൂടുതൽ വ്യക്തമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ആത്മാവിന്റെ ഫലം വിശ്വാസിയുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ ദൈവം നടത്തുന്ന രൂപാന്തരപ്രവർത്തനത്തിന്റെ തെളിവാകുന്നത്.

7. ദൈവം വിശ്വാസിയെ ക്രിസ്തുവിനോടു സാദൃശ്യമാക്കുന്നു

വിശുദ്ധീകരണത്തിന്റെ അന്തിമലക്ഷ്യം നമ്മെ യേശുവിനോടു കൂടുതൽ സാദൃശ്യമുള്ളവരാക്കുക എന്നതാണ്.

വിശ്വാസികൾ “തന്റെ പുത്രന്റെ സ്വരൂപത്തോടു അനുരൂപരാകേണ്ടതിന്” ദൈവം മുൻനിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് റോമർ 8:29 പറയുന്നു. രണ്ടാം കൊരിന്ത്യർ 3:18-ലും മഹത്വത്തിൽനിന്ന് മഹത്വത്തിലേക്ക് ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ സ്വരൂപത്തിലേക്കു രൂപാന്തരപ്പെടുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പറയുന്നു.

ഈ രൂപാന്തരം ക്രമേണ സംഭവിക്കുന്നതാണ്. ഒരു രാത്രികൊണ്ട് നാം ക്രിസ്തുവിനെപ്പോലെ പൂർണ്ണരാകുന്നില്ല. നമ്മുടെ ഭൂമിയിലെ ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവൻ ദൈവം നമ്മിൽ തന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം തുടരുന്നു.

വിശുദ്ധീകരണം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തുടർച്ചയായ പ്രവർത്തനമാണ്

അതിനാൽ വിശുദ്ധീകരണം മനുഷ്യന്റെ സ്വയം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തൽ മാത്രമല്ല. ഇതിനകം നീതീകരിച്ച വ്യക്തിയിൽ ദൈവം തുടർച്ചയായി നടത്തുന്ന പ്രവർത്തനമാണത്.

വിശ്വാസം, അനുസരണം, പ്രാർത്ഥന, സമർപ്പണം, ആത്മാവിനനുസരിച്ചുള്ള നടത്തം എന്നിവയിലൂടെ നാം പ്രതികരിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ നമ്മുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും ഈ രൂപാന്തരം സാധ്യമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത് ദൈവമാണ്.

നീതീകരണം ഈ ചോദ്യത്തിന് ഉത്തരം നൽകുന്നു: “ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ എങ്ങനെ നീതിമാനായി നിൽക്കാൻ കഴിയും?”

വിശുദ്ധീകരണം ഈ ചോദ്യത്തിന് ഉത്തരം നൽകുന്നു: “ദൈവം നീതീകരിച്ച വ്യക്തിയുടെ ജീവിതത്തെ എങ്ങനെ രൂപാന്തരപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു?”

ദൈവം എന്നിലുള്ള തന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുമ്പോൾ ഞാൻ എന്തായിത്തീരും എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് മഹത്വീകരണം ഒടുവിൽ ഉത്തരം നൽകും.

ക്രിസ്തുവിൽ നീതിമാനായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതും ദൈവസന്നിധിയിൽ ഒടുവിൽ പൂർണ്ണരാകുന്നതും തമ്മിലുള്ള യാത്രയാണ് വിശുദ്ധീകരണം.

ദൈവം ഈ പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു, തുടരുന്നു, ഒടുവിൽ തന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

God’s Work in the Sanctification of a Believer

Sanctification is the ongoing work that God carries out in a believer’s life after justification. In justification, God declares a person righteous because of faith in Christ. In sanctification, God gradually begins to transform that person’s life so that he increasingly reflects the character of Christ.

Sanctification is not something we achieve by our own strength. Through the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, discipline, circumstances, and our daily life of faith, God actively works within us.

1. God Sets the Believer Apart for Himself

When a person comes to Christ, he is set apart for God. He now belongs to God and is called to live a life that reflects this new relationship.

Peter says, “Be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:15). God does not merely save us from something; He also sets us apart for Himself.

2. God Works Through the Holy Spirit

At the center of the work of sanctification is the Holy Spirit. He dwells in the believer and continually works within him.

The Spirit convicts us of sin, teaches us the truth of God, gives us strength to obey, and produces Christlike character in us.

Galatians 5:22–23 describes this fruit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

3. God Renews the Mind

Sanctification also involves a change in the way we think.

Romans 12:2 says that we are transformed through the renewing of our minds. As we understand and receive the Word of God, our thoughts, attitudes, values, and desires gradually begin to change.

God gradually teaches us to see life not according to the ways of the world, but from God’s perspective.

4. God Changes Our Desires and Gives Us Strength to Obey

God does not simply tell the believer what to do and then leave him to struggle alone.

Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

God works within us by giving us the desire to please Him and the strength to live according to His will.

5. God Grows His Children Through Discipline

God also uses discipline as part of sanctification.

Hebrews 12 teaches that God disciplines those whom He loves. At times, He allows correction, trials, and difficult circumstances to expose areas in our lives that need to change.

His purpose is not to condemn us, but to train us in righteousness and holiness.

6. God Produces Spiritual Fruit

The Christian life is not merely about avoiding sin. God desires to produce the character of Christ in us.

As we walk according to the Spirit, His character becomes increasingly evident in our lives. Therefore, the fruit of the Spirit is evidence of God’s transforming work within the believer.

7. God Makes the Believer More Like Christ

The ultimate goal of sanctification is to make us increasingly like Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:29 says that believers were predestined “to be conformed to the image of His Son.” Second Corinthians 3:18 also speaks of being transformed into the image of Christ, from glory to glory.

This transformation takes place gradually. We do not become perfect like Christ overnight. Throughout our earthly life, God continues His work in us.

Sanctification Is the Continuing Work of God

Therefore, sanctification is not merely human self-improvement. It is the ongoing work of God in a person who has already been justified.

We respond through faith, obedience, prayer, surrender, and walking according to the Spirit. But it is God who works within us and makes this transformation possible.

Justification answers the question:

“How can I stand righteous before God?”

Sanctification answers the question:

“How does God transform the life of the person whom He has justified?”

Glorification will ultimately answer the question:

“What will I become when God completes His work in me?”

Sanctification is the journey between being declared righteous in Christ and ultimately being made perfect in the presence of God.

God begins this work, continues it, and ultimately brings His work to completion.
